Different Types of Compressors

Many people have seen compressors being used at construction sites but do not know what the machines are called. Compressors are similar in theory to pumps, because they provide power to other machinery.

Some types of machinery need compressors in order for them to work at all and other types of machines work better when they are powered by compressors.

Different Types of Compressors

Some compressors are small and portable and others are large and stationary. Most compressors are known as gas compressors and the most common types are called air compressors.

Gas compressors work by reducing the volume of a gas, while also increasing the pressure of the gas. The gas pressure that is formed is then used to power various types of machinery.

Smaller types of compressors are usually portable and are often used in residential settings. Larger compressors are generally used in business and industry settings and are frequently stationary. Construction and trade contractors sometimes mount a large compressor on a truck or trailer so it can be moved around to various locations.

Compressor-Powered Tools

Both large and small compressors are capable of powering a broad spectrum of other machines and applications. Painting contractors frequently utilize compressors to aid in the process of painting large indoor and outdoor areas.

Jackhammers that are used in various types of construction jobs are usually powered by compressors. Pneumatic tools such as sandblasters, riveters, impact wrenches, drills and sanders are generally powered by compressors.
